Smoky Chipotle Butter

I’m no stranger to infused butters; I do several of them. In fact, my herb butter recipe is one of the most visited pages on this blog, so you should definitely check that one out. My sage brown butter recipe is another favorite. Today, though, it is all about that smoky flavor you would normally associate with grilling outdoors. This smoky chipotle butter will 100% elevate your steak game, but don’t forget the seafood!

One of my favorite uses for this smoky chipotle butter is lobster. Of course, it’s great with scallops and shrimp as well, but don’t stop there. Try it with corn, or asparagus, or any of your favorite veggies that you want to take next level. Another favorite of mine is to add it to my butter burgers — lights out!

The smokiness from the chilies and adobo sauce really come through without being overpowering when infused into the butter. The fat in the butter mellows the heat from the peppers to a very pleasant level while the cilantro brings freshness and a pop of color.

How To Store Chipotle Butter

This butter will keep in the fridge for as long as the expiration date on the butter you use. If you want to make a larger batch, it also freezes really well.

TIP: If you want to freeze the butter, allow it to freeze in the log shape for 3-4 hours. Once frozen, place inside a vacuum-sealable bag and seal for extended freezer storage. If you don’t let the butter freeze for a few hours first, the vacuum may collapse the log of butter into a pancake shape.

If you want to get fancy, there are silicone butter and candy molds that are cheap and can be used to create interesting and unique shapes for your chipotle butter. Those individual butter pats are great for dinner parties or events where you’re looking to impress. I find using simple parchment paper to be easiest but I’m not all that fancy, so that’s a personal preference.

Should I Use Salted or Unsalted Butter for Flavored Butters?

This is a personal choice. Plenty of people will only use unsalted butter for everything. It allows them the ability to control the amount of salt used. I can certainly respect that so if you want to use unsalted butter for this flavored butter, plan on adding a pinch of salt on your own to this recipe.

Smoky Chipotle Butter

Ingredients

1 stick butter, softened at room temperature
2 chipotle peppers, diced
2 tbsp sauce from peppers
½ tsp smoked paprika
2 tbsp cilantro, finely chopped

How to Make Chipotle Butter

Step 1: Add room temperature butter to a small bowl.

Step 2:
Add remaining ingredients to softened butter and mix thoroughly.

Add chopped cilantro, paprika, diced chilis and adobo sauce, then mix well using a fork

Spread butter mixture onto a sheet of parchment paper and roll into a log.

Step 4:
Twist paper at either end to seal, and store in the fridge.
